It happened on Monday, April 24, Pocono Township police wrote. Officers patrolling on Route 611 spotted a white BMW with its headlights off and tried to initiate a stop, but the driver fled the scene, the department said.

Officers lost sight of the BMW but later flagged it down at a nearby Sheetz, they said. The driver fled again, leading township police, Pocono Mountain Regional police, and state troopers on a "high-speed" chase for almost 15 miles, authorities wrote.

Police laid out Stop Sticks on the road to immobilize the car and end the pursuit, according to the release. The BMW was found to have a "black cloth-like material" installed in the license plate frame, allowing the driver to "conceal the registration from view," authorities claimed.

The driver, identified only as a 17-year-old from East Stroudsburg, was charged "through the juvenile system" with eluding police, reckless endangerment, and over a dozen traffic violations, authorities added.
